Matanna and Monte Forato – Alpi Apuane Trekking hiking
The Alpi Apuane Trekking on the Monte Matanna and Monte Forato is a very particular walking on the mountain area of Alpi Apuane, in the province of Lucca. It consist of a full day excursion on the rocky and green mountain of Garfagnana. Beautiful views on the top of the mountains, interesting species and trails are the main goal of this hiking.
How we usually organize this on the Alpi Apuane Trekking
The group needs a bus to cover distances between the hotel and the hiking starting point.
We usually accompany our guest to visit the outstanding bridge called “Devil’s Bridge” not far from Lucca. It’s an extraordinary example of middle age architecture. It’s located on the river Serchio and it’s considered one the geographical boundaries of Garfagnana territory.
Then we go to Matanna refuge, located inside the Alpi Apuane natural park. It’s a refuge with a small farm with horses and other animals that serves good food and sandwiches and it will be our starting and ending point. The hiking rises on the dirty road toward a rocky and grassy path. The guide will explain the particular vegetation and fauna of the mountain.
The group will reach the top of the mountain called Monte Forato (Mountain with a hole) and come back toward a woody trail. The entire hiking needs good healthy conditions and phisical shape because there are many part of the trail on witch you need to pass jumps and quite hard slopes. No particular equipment will be needed, but a backpack with water, food, k-way, hat will be useful as well as hiking boots.
Packed lunch and extra visits
During the hiking in the Alpi Apuane natural park the group does some stops in order to let the guide explain peculiarities of the area. A packed lunch will be eaten in safe peaceful place.
All the hiking is about 5-6 hours long and it require good physical conditions and appropriate skills.
The hiking is too long to allow extra visits.
