Tuscany countryside – Hiking in Chianti
Hiking in the Chianti countryside is one the best activity could be done in Tuscany. This hiking is just one of the possible visits to the Chianti area. We usually suggest this one because it’s easy to reach, quite easy to do and close to many tavern suitable for wine tasting. Here you are in the land of vineyard and here one the most famous and good wine is produced and exported all over the world. It’s the “Gallo Nero“.
How we usually manage the day
We suggest to organize the group in order to be ready for the hiking in the start point at 10.00. For this hiking the group could chooses whether the packed lunch or lunch at restaurant. The start point is in Greve in Chianti where many good restaurant can serve lunch with typical food and drink. On the other hand the packed lunch is more versatile and could be eat during the trail.
The trail usually need about 3 hours to be completed.
How is the trail
The trail is almost completely on dirty road, with gravel. We start rising the hill surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Ancient castles, farms and woodland will enrich the landscape the group will find out.
A flat part of the trail and then again a rise will lead to pastures where cows of Maremmana breed usually stay and graze. Here we are on the top of the trail and, in case of packed lunch, the group can eat and have a rest.
After that we go down in the woodland and after a stream ford we reach an ancient church.
A short and steep ascent led to the main road, again in the countryside and then again in Greve in Chianti.
Greve in Chianti is good also for its nice narrow roads, its shops with typical products and its wine bar.
The trail needs hiking boots, personal water and to be fine.
What to do after the hiking
During the hiking usually our guests like to visit a vinery and enjoy a wine tasting. Sometime they like to stay in Greve in Chianti to visit the village and then visit museums like the “Museo d’arte sacra di San Francesco“.
