Hiking in the Alpi Apuane natural park and Campocatino village.
The Hiking in the Alpi Apuane natural park is a linear trail from Campocatino to a very particular church hided in the woodland.
But let’s start from the beginning!
How we usually organize this day
The group need a bus to cover distances between the hotel and the hiking starting point.
We usually accompany our guest to visit the outstanding bridge called “Devil’s Bridge” not far from Lucca. It’s an extraordinary example of middle age architecture. It’s located on the river Serchio and it’s considered one the geographical boundaries of Garfagnana territory.
Then we go to Campocatino, located inside the Alpi Apuane natural park. It’s a small village made of stones houses surrounded by pastures and green mountains.
The hiking start from here and slightly rise on the dirty road toward the woodland. The guide will explain the particular vegetation and the marble quarries activity that constantly give hight quality marble to the whole world.
The group reach an ancient church into the woodland. Here Saint Viviano lived during XIV century similarly to Saint Francisco. A natural water source and wild vegetable were his main sustenance during his retreat.
Packed lunch and extra visits
During the hiking in the Alpi Apuane natural park the group does many stops in order to let the guide explain all the peculiarity of the area. A packed lunch will be eaten in safe peaceful place.
All the hiking is about 3 hours long and it’s quite easy.
After the hiking we advice to visit the cave “Grotta del Vento”, very interesting and easy to reach.
