Buggiano and Colle castles – hike in Tuscany

This hike in Tuscany starts in Colle, a hamlet founded in the Middle Age, here you can make out nice house doors and gardens walls, you can see the Oratory of Knights of Malta and you can admire a nice parish churh Pieve di San Lorenzo with the old tower bell. Now your walk through this village has come to the end and you can leave it through one of the city gates.

The stream flows in a very narrow valley surrounded by woods and it is rich in riparian biodiversity  and  the landscape is historical and environmental value. It’s the village that you can see best  from afar because of the dark red colour of its houses and palaces.  The characteristic red Pompeian colour derives from Villa Sermolli indeed originally all the properties of the family Sermolli were distinguished by this particular shade of colour. Citrus plants and other beautiful plants and flowers are grown here, which can be seen behind the gardens gate.

The walks is a hike in Tuscany and ends in the main square of the castle, Piazza Pretorio where you can admire the wonderful Pretorian palace with its characteristic stone façade with mullioned window and numerous stone coat of arms, the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the fortress on the highest point of the hill and the clock tower.
